The FOGN Experience

In 2022, Pia MYrvoLD made the transition from Paris to the quaint island of FOGN in Ryfylke, Stavanger, Norway. Pia has lived in Paris for 30 years, so the contrast between urban life amidst 14 million people and the small island community of 350 inhabitants is truly remarkable.

The old store and harbour Sæbøvåg; on the northwest side of the isalnd; was a pivotal contact point in the community since its opening a century ago, holds significance in local history. Sæbøvåg, and the pier; served as the central hub for the ferry, post, and milk boat.

The pier, featuring a boat house, marked the initial commercial connection fostering life and communication among the numerous islands, fjords, and cities around Fogn.

Today, Sæbøvåg is home to a handful of residents and numerous second-home occupants, arriving by boat or ferry to the southwest island. It has 350 inhabitants, has an elementary school, the store Joker, where you can get foods, petrol and other useful things for your summerhous or boat, an active church society, the elders forum The Grendalaget, and Fogn Sportsclub, to name a few. Fogn is a part of Stavanger Municipality.
